Milestones for Sonja

Two noteworthy things going on here with Sonja...

1) No more bottles!! Woo hoo! We finally took the plunge and got rid of them altogether and it has been far less painful than we expected. We had gotten her down to one bottle of milk in the morning, after her 2-year check-up a few weeks ago when the pediatrician "encouraged" us to take her off them. That was going pretty well although it still required a LOT of coaxing and bribing for her to drink milk from the cup (she has been drinking water from a cup for about a year, mind you, just not milk). But then, we just got sick of having the bottles cluttering our counter up (and she IS two, after all!). So we made the switch. That first day she had a good 10-minute tantrum (she threw herself down on the floor and kept yelling, "No cup! No cup!") but then she was fine and eventually drank the whole cup of milk. It was great. It has been a little harder since (picture me chasing her around the house with the cup and straw), but she's at least getting most of the milk that she needs in a day (as opposed to when we took Peyton off the bottle and he didn't have a single sip of milk for about a month).

And the other milestone...

We started Sonja on the potty! She has been sporadically going pee-pee on the potty of her own volition, without us asking her, for a few weeks now, and she's figuring out how to pee in the bath (which, actually, is how Peyton first learned to control his bladder), so we figured we would give it a shot. It would be so nice to be free of diapers (with the exception of pull-ups at night)! I'm not convinced it's going to be as easy as it was with Peyton, but they do say girls, in general, are easier than boys. And I would rather do it now, when it's still somewhat mild outside, than 3 months from now when we're freezing our butts off. So, starting today, I've become a slave to the potty (and the endless loads of laundry and rug cleaning that go with it...)! Ahhhhhhhhh...

I SO dread taking the bottle from Acelynn! SHE ONLY gets it at bed time...But, I wish it was gone altogether! We'll see! I tried it a couple weeks ago for about 30 minutes...It's something I am going to slowly wean her off - or maybe her bottle will "break" or something soon. ahhh!
