Fall fun
The glorious fall weather continues here in CT. Aside from today, which was freakishly warm and humid, the weather has been mid-60s, slightly breezy and crisp with bright blue skies. Beautiful. We took advantage of it and went to a Country Pumpkin Festival in West Hartford over the weekend (practically every town in New England has something like it or some variation of it at some point during the fall!). It was great. It was on a farm-turned-public park. There were a ton of people but it was spread out over the entire farm so it never felt that crowded. There were all sorts of little activities going on in different parts of the farm, like pick-your-own pumpkins from a mini patch, paint your own pumpkin, roast your own marshmellows (around a real bonfire), a corn maze, tractor-led and horse-led hayrides (we took the horse-led one, much to Peyton's delight), face painting, games like pumpkin rolling and burlap sack races, seasonal snacks like apples and apple cider, and of course, the farm animals! We spent almost two hours there and we still didn't do everything. The kids had a blast and we did, too.
Continuing with the theme, Peyton, Sonja and I are going to Pumpkintown tomorrow with my mom's club. It is this little gem in a small town called East Hampton where they make an entire village out of pumpkin people (i.e. scarecrow bodies with pumpkin heads). Each section is themed like a real part of a town, like a bank, a country store, a wedding chapel, etc. It is pretty amazing what they do and the kids totally get into it.
Then, Saturday night, Brad and I are leaving the kids with a babysitter (my friend Lisa's very brave sister Ellen who will be watching Lisa's 4-year old twins in addition to our 2 kids!) and going on a haunted hayride with Lisa's twins club friends. We haven't done a haunted hayride in years. Should be fun. And hey, any excuse to snuggle up on a haybale without the kids works for me! :)
